Celebrating 25 Years of Building Belonging

On May 23, 2025, The Delores Project hosted a joyful and heartfelt evening to mark a major milestone: 25 years of Building Belonging in Denver. Held at Mile High Station, the anniversary celebration brought together longtime supporters, community partners, former guests and residents, volunteers, and new friends—all united by a shared commitment to dignity, housing, and community for people experiencing homelessness.

The event honored our journey from a small, winter-only shelter in 2000 to a leading provider of low-barrier shelter and permanent supportive housing for women, transgender, and nonbinary individuals. Through stories, music, and celebration, we reflected on the thousands of lives touched over the past two and a half decades—and the power of community to heal, support, and transform.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was welcoming members of Delores Big Boy’s family to the celebration. As the namesake of our organization, Delores Big Boy’s legacy lives on in the mission and values we carry forward every day. Her family’s presence reminded us of the real people and stories that inspired our founding and continue to ground our work in dignity, cultural respect, and care for those most often overlooked.

We also took the opportunity to honor our incredible past executive directors—Julie Duffy, Terrell Curtis, and Stephanie Miller—who each helped shape The Delores Project into the strong and compassionate organization it is today. These leaders were recognized with the Spirit of Delores Award, a tribute to their unwavering commitment to our mission and to the communities we serve.

We’re so grateful to everyone who made the event a success—from our generous sponsors and donors to our amazing staff and volunteers. Thank you for celebrating with us and for being a part of this vibrant, resilient community of care.

As we look toward the next 25 years, we invite you to continue building belonging with us. Whether you donate, volunteer your time, or share our story, you are part of this work—and we couldn’t do it without you.

Here’s to another 25 years of compassion, courage, and community.
